Albright College is a small, private, liberal arts college in Reading, PA, and is home to 1,650 students (day program) with an additional 800 in adult degree programs. In 2011, Newsweek included Albright College on a list of “top 25 most artistic colleges.” This accolade is reinforced by its award-winning arts programs, and is based on a multi-disciplinary foundation, which includes amazing resources like the Freedman Gallery. The gallery was founded in 1976 by Doris Chanin Freedman, an alumnae who went on to an acclaimed career as an advocate, administrator and leader for contemporary public art in New York City. The gallery continues to focus on presenting exhibitions “of consistent highest quality…represent(ing), primarily, living American contemporary artists.” In 1990, the gallery moved into its new home, the Center for the Arts, designed by Adele Santos who collaborated with sculptor Mary Miss to create the central plaza and amphitheater from which extend wings for the gallery, studio arts, music and theatre. The gallery’s inaugural exhibit included work by Jim Dine, Louise Nevelson and Frank Stella, among others.  Currently, the gallery showcases ten to fifteen exhibitions per year and has recently featured work in solo and groups shows from Sue Coe, James Hyde, Bouchra Khalili, Melanie Yazzie, and Lydia Panas.
