Newcastle University can trace its origins to a College of Medicine established in the city in 1834. Today, it is one of the UK’s leading universities with a thriving international community of almost 21,900 students in three faculties: Humanities and Social Sciences; Medical Sciences; and Science Agriculture and Engineering.
A founder member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, in 2015 our research income increased to more than £150 million. Newcastle is ranked 8th in the UK for medical research power, and in the top 12 in the UK for Science and Engineering research power. Through our societal challenge themes of ageing, sustainability and social renewal, we are committed to research that addresses some of society’s most pressing needs. Our Medical School in Malaysia, NUMed offers full UK medical and biosciences degrees in-country, while in Singapore we offer seven degree programmes ranging from naval architecture to food and human nutrition.
Newcastle is one of the top 20 universities targeted by employers in the UK. Our graduates continue to be among the most highly employable in the country, with 95.2 per cent of UK and EU first degree students progressing to work or further study within six months of graduating.
