The Academy of Art and Design (AKV) St. Joost offers a full-time Master of Fine Art course in Den Bosch and Breda in the south of the Netherlands. A select group of artists is given the opportunity to enrich and professionalize their work under the guidance of a energetic team of tutors and guest-tutors. St. Joost MFA is practice orientated, with a strong, stimulating theoretical component. Students are constantly challenged to deepen their own work while operating in different environments and situations, and while using different concepts and themes. St. Joost MFA operates in an international network and offers its participants the chance to present their work in a professional and international context.

The Master Institute of Visual Cultures (MIVC) is part of St. Joost School of Art & Design, part of the Avans University of Applied Science. We offer two Master programmes: Master of Animation and Master of Fine Art (MA FAD) and Design. The interdisciplinary curriculum across the MA FAD offers students flexibility, as well as a fixed programme of mandatory courses and elective modules that are shared across our courses in Situated Design, Visual Arts and Post-Contemporary Practice and Ecology Futures.

The MIVC provides a transformative education, empowering students to become the new generation of artists and designers who will contribute in unconventional ways to changing the complex and interconnected world we live in. By creating a unique educational environment, where the tradition of studio practices sit at ease with practices driven by ideas and context, and where artists and designers together, through an interchange of ways of thinking, create new knowledge to tackle some of the most pressing and challenging societal issues of our time.
