Art by Translation is a research and exhibition program for art and curatorial practices initiated by École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy and École Supérieure des Beaux Arts TALM Angers directed by Maud Jacquin and Sébastien Pluot, founding directors and Jeff Guess, pedagogical director. It is supported by the French Ministry of Culture and collaborates with a host of institutions: Galerie Art & Essai, Université Rennes 2, La Galerie Centre d’Art Contemporain de Noisy-le-sec, CNEAI=, Galerie Michèle Didier in France; The James Gallery, The Graduate Center (CUNY), Barnard College, Emily Harvey Foundation in New York; Fonderie Darling, Centre Canadien d’Architecture in Montreal; California Institute of the Arts, MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles; Faculté d’Architecture La Cambre Horta in Brussels; AiR 351 Lisbon, Culturgest Porto in Portugal.
This international platform develops projects within these contexts and in a variety of formats: artworks, architectural constructions, exhibitions, study sessions, symposia and publications with invited artists and lecturers. Art by Translation is a postgraduate program which involves 4 selected artists and curators each year. Its model aims to foster an experimental context for research and art practices, reconfiguring the traditional “research-exhibition-publication” chronology and encouraging collaboration between art centers, art schools and universities. Art by Translation stimulates collective work and the redistribution of roles and competencies.
