Located at the heart of one of the world’s finest public research universities, the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) puts art and ideas at the center of campus and public life. We create experiences that enrich our understanding of one another, foster joy, and build a more just future. Through exhibitions, programs, research, and community partnerships we are redefining what a campus museum can be.

UMMA’s collection of more than 21,000 objects represents three millennia of art making. Works by Whistler and Picasso, Chinese and Japanese paintings and ceramics, and central African sculptures are among the finest in North America. Dynamic special exhibitions stimulate thinking on the art and ideas of our time. Serving nearly 250,000 visitors each year (including 18,000 U-M students), UMMA delivers an exciting range of performing arts, spoken word, and art-making events, with specialized programs for children, families, and adults with mild memory loss. UMMA has been recognized in national media and with awards from the American Alliance of Museums. Admission, membership, and virtually all programming is free, and the Museum is fully accessible—encouraging and welcoming the participation of all.
