Established in 2016, Hauser & Wirth Institute is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) private operating foundation dedicated to art historical scholarship and to the preservation and accessibility of modern and contemporary artists’ archives.

Under the guidance of its Board of Directors and Advisory Board, Hauser & Wirth Institute will build a public study center for the preservation, expedient cataloguing, and digitization of artists’ archival materials in New York City, and make these resources available for primary document research and digitally online. Hauser & Wirth Institute also nurtures innovation and substance in art historical research primarily through the funding of fellowships in partnership with academic and archive-based institutions, produces online catalogues raisonnés and print publications that advance the highest academic standards to strengthen the field of art history, and initiates programs—such as symposia, lectures, and exhibitions of archival material—to inform a public conversation about the obligations and opportunities inherent in archive stewardship.
