Ashkal Alwan, The Lebanese Association for Plastic Arts is a non-profit organization based in Beirut, Lebanon. Since 1993, the association has been committed to contemporary art practice and research, as well as interdisciplinary and collaborative modes of study. The association aims to facilitate artistic production and foster critical thinking around regional urgencies. Through its programs and platforms, Ashkal Alwan works towards creating networks of exchange between artistic and cultural practitioners and institutions, building an archival record of artistic and intellectual endeavors in Lebanon and the Arabic-speaking region, supporting artists and providing the necessary resources for the development of new work, rethinking arts education, helping enrich critical discourse in the Arabic language, as well as engaging in continuous dialogue with grassroots initiatives working in and around the civic and political realms.
