The Kunsthalle zu Kiel is a museum with its own collection and exhibition rooms as well as an institute of the Christian Albrecht University. The Kunsthalle provides palpable impressions of the current art scene and constantly interacts with international art discourse with themed and solo exhibitions.

The collection of the Kunsthalle spans from the times in which Albrecht Dürer worked and lived to the present. It comprises more than 1200 paintings and 300 sculptures, among them works by Emil Nolde, Georg Baselitz, Neo Rauch, and Gerhard Richter. The graphic collection has 40,000 works of art, among them sheets by masters such as Rembrandt, Adolf Menzel, and Otto Dix, and also includes photographic prints and video artworks. The holdings are exhibited in different annual presentations.

The Kunsthalle is not only enticing because of the exhibitions taking place within its walls; the museum also provides an exchange platform for all age groups. Its special painting courses and workshops introduce young guests to art in a playful way. The museum substantially contributes to the cultural highlights in Kiel by organising guided tours, concerts, and readings in its rooms.
