Museum Brandhorst was opened in 2009, which makes it the youngest institution of the Bavarian State Painting Collections (Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen). Since its opening, the museum has managed to establish itself as a crucial site for contemporary art in Germany. Its collection and temporary exhibitions are dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art, with a special focus on the detailed examination of artists, as well as current issues.
