CIMAM is the only global network of modern and contemporary art museum experts in the field. CIMAM members are directors and curators working in modern and contemporary art museums, collections, and archives. Independent curators are also members of CIMAM.

The main objectives of CIMAM are to raise awareness and to respond to the changing needs of modern and contemporary art museums; to play a leadership role in addressing issues of concern, and provide essential values of networking, knowledge, and exchange of experiences for our members.

CIMAM looks to support museum and art professionals in ensuring that museums and art collections are managed with integrity and operate according to international standards of good practice.

CIMAM has been pursuing this mission for almost 60 years, and today it represents a community of almost 600 directors and curators of modern and contemporary art museums and collections from over 60 countries across the world.

The 15 members of the Board work on a volunteer basis. Each of them contributes to practical, strategic, and globally-minded working groups and projects that recognize visionary practices, address some of the most pressing challenges facing modern and contemporary museums today, and serve as an example and inspiration to our community.

CIMAM is an Affiliated Organization of ICOM, the International Council of Museums.
