The Nederlands Fotomuseum contains a treasure-house of Dutch photography. 129 archives are preserved in the museum’s climatised storerooms, comprising three million negatives and a large quantity of slides, prints and documents about the life and work of such Dutch photographers as Ed van der Elsken, Cas Oorthuys and Piet Zwart. The museum also collects amateur photography and administers the archives of Katharina Eleonore Behrend and Hein Wertheimer, for example. Thanks to the wealth of subjects, genres and applications, the collection not only embraces the history of Dutch photography, but also presents more than a century of Dutch history in images.
