Yuki Iiyama Read Bio Collapse
Yuki Iiyama lives and works in Tokyo. Her work comprises installations, videos, and objects such as hand-knitted tapestries. By using interviews and archival material, she examines the interrelationships between individuals, society, and history. Her works explore processes of social stigmatization, seeking to unveil the pain and healing brought forth by re-telling and thus re-creating lived experiences. In recent years, she has been working with artists and citizens from diverse backgrounds and cultures in order to explore the intersectionality of disability, illness, ethnicity, race, and gender in personal experiences under the homogenizing pressure of society. Her recent works have been shown at Yokohama Museum of Art (2020), WAITINGROOM (Tokyo, 2020, 2014), Sendai Mediatheque (2017), Miyaura Gallery 6 (2016), Fukuoka Art Museum (2016), Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art (2015), Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (2015), and other museums and art spaces. Some of her works are in the public collections of Fukuoka Art Museum and Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art.
