An exceptional event, the bestowal of an honorary degree in Sociology to Maurizio Cattelan by the University of Trento, is the occasion for the opening of one of the artist’s new projects, specifically made for the Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea Trento (Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art Trento – Italy).
From March 31 to September 26, 2004, Maurizio Cattelan will be present at the Faculty of Sociology and will take possession of its main entrance with an ironical and disarming installation. By adding a new character to his well-known theatre of the absurd, Maurizio Cattelan continues his personal eulogy of folly, celebrated this time right in the heart of the most respected scientific community. A direct attack to the authority of education, but also a disarming portrait of the artist as a child, the installation of Maurizio Cattelan plays with the contradictory tradition of the local Faculty of Sociology, and draws back also to a centennial history of insubordination and mocking rites against professors. At the same time it is a tribute to popular wisdom and a snigger against the establishment; Maurizio Cattelan’s sculpture depicts an inside-out world, carrying on his research as an artist in the look-out of new strategies to turn the world upside-down.

Curated by Fabio Cavallucci and Hanna Wroblewska 21.02- 20.05.2004
The first personal exhibition in Italy of Polish artist Katarzyna Kozyra opened at the Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea Trento on the 20th of February 2004 (until the 30th of May 2004).
A strong and provocatory artist whose work has often invoked scandal, Katarzyna Kozyra touches upon sensitive social themes such as privacy, violence, old-age and illness. Always, however, maintaining a notably high poetic quality that eloquently reconnects her research on contemporary social conditions to elements selected from the history of art.
CATALOGUE: Katarzyna Kozyra, publication in Italian and English curated by Fabio Cavallucci and Hanna Wroblewska, with texts written by curators Massimiliano Gioni and an interview with Katarzyna Kozyra by Artur Zmijewski, plus numerous images of all the realised works, publisher Silvana Editoriale
