The Royal Academy of Art educates students to become independent and self-aware artists and designers with investigative mindsets, distinctive visual and conceptual abilities, and the capacity to produce authentic and in-depth creative work capable of playing a meaningful role in both their chosen disciplines and in society as a whole. The Royal Academy of Art offers a variety of bachelor and master courses. There are also several preparatory courses. In collaboration with Leiden University a doctorate trajectory is offered. The Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire together form the University of the Arts The Hague.

We offer four Master programmes:
ArtScience (2 years / full-time)
The ArtScience Master programme offers students the opportunity to focus on their own creation and research in order to intensify and transform their professional art practice. It is an interdisciplinary art programme between the Royal Academy of Art and the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and is therefore called the ArtScience Interfaculty. The programme fosters curiosity driven research as an approach for the making of art. The programme considers art and science as a continuum and promotes the development of new art forms and artistic languages. The Interfaculty closely collaborates with Leiden University’s Media Technology Master programme. More info

Artistic Research (2 years / full-time)
A studio based fine art masters, with active reflection on the methodologies that support both the investigative and presentational aspects of an artistic practice. The Master Artistic Research (MAR) is an intensive, full time, two-year study program aimed at an international group of students working in the field of visual art, who also have an interest in research processes and critical reflection within their art practice. The MAR seeks to educate artists to become autonomous, critically aware artistic researchers. The constantly developing program places at its centre the exploration of each student’s personal creative trajectory, the production that defines this, and critical reflection on the processes, inspirations, and material results of this. Interior Architecture (INSIDE) (2 years / full-time)
INSIDE is an internationally-oriented Master’s programme that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the field of interior architecture. This master’s course is meant for interior architects who start every assignment by conducting a wide-ranging exploration of a spatial context undergoing change. Wide-ranging here means that through observation, research and theoretical study, students chart and analyse a whole array of issues that are relevant to the spatial change that the context is undergoing. That wide range consists not only of spatial aspects but also of social, historical and ecological issues at play in the wider surroundings. More info

Type and Media (1 year / full-time)
In this full-time master programme students will expand their existing knowledge of type design and typography. At Type and Media students work intensively in small groups under the guidance of expert and enthusiastic teachers from the permanent and visiting faculty. Courses include calligraphy exercises, stone carving, non-latin scripts, the creation of typeface revivals, Python programming, the usage of state of the art font editing software as well as sketching techniques all leading up to the creation of new letters. In 2014, this master programme was accredited by an international committee of type designers as the best course in typography and type design in the world. More info
