National Taipei University of Education is delighted to announce the opening of its new MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies in Contemporary Arts; a two-year, intensively taught-in-English programme providing students an opportunity to be familiar with discourses in contemporary art from various vantage points of the globe, especially from Asia Pacific.
The salient boom of the global art and its related industries have steadily grown in this century. The contemporary art field is amazingly prosperous due to an intensive operation among biennials, art museums, art fairs and art auctions, which led the spectacle of Asian art and the attention from the whole world. In this fashion, Taiwan gains a hold in its key position at Asia and bridges a rigorous intellectual interaction and input of contemporary art with many of its neighbors.
This programme will be the first one of this kind in Taiwan, providing a theoretical and practical understanding of contemporary art, art criticism and curatorial studies with a regional focus on Asia Pacific. Students are introduced to key texts and cases by top faculty as well as numbers of visiting scholars and guest speakers around the world to gain an insight into the significant topics and practices of contemporary art in a variety of scenarios, from art museum, alternative space, pop-up gallery to large biennial and triennial.
