Paris College of Art presents PCA x PAIRS PROJECT, a photographic exhibition showcasing the result of the collaboration between PCA’s MA in Fashion Film & Photography program and the editor-in-chief of Pairs Project, Anna Barr. Pairs Project is an annual print bookzine exploring formats and dogmas of fashion representations and storytelling.

The exhibition features the projects done by the students of the Fashion Editorial course in the context of the PCA x PAIRS PROJECT collaboration. The adjunct professor of the course Kegham Djeghalian and the editor-in-chief of Pairs set a fluid brief and structure through which students could develop their own approach and project their aesthetic universe while adapting to the DNA of the publication, thus staging real-life professional dynamics of photographer-publication. Even though 35mm analogue photography is at the core of Pairs Project’s identity the students were not limited to using analogue in order to encourage an individual experimental approach.

In response to a hyper-commercialized and ever-evolving field like fashion image-making and photography, which is heavily marked by the acceleration of the fashion cycle and the obsession of the “new” in aesthetics and formats, the approach of the MA program, encapsulated by the PCA x PAIRS PROJECT collaboration, aims to contextualize students’ practice within the industry’s contemporary imperatives stressing the merging of academic research with professional practice.

The exhibition curated by Kegham Djeghalian presents the work of the following photographers: Lulu Alsaud, Rufus Barkley, Tove Wall Dyrting, Chase McCurdy, Lili Mirab, Alma Rosaz, Dhruvin Shah and Andrew Voxalis..

The Paris College of Art Master of Arts (MA) in Fashion Film and Photography is a one-year program aimed at emerging photographers interested in specializing in fashion. Professional practice of fashion photographers today increasingly includes film, so moving image is taught alongside still. The proposed MA meets the demands of an expanding market for fashion advertising through storytelling in photography and film, using social media and capitalizing on the ability to reach large audiences at reduced cost through online marketing.
