CRAFT! offers a norm-critical and international master programme in some of Europe’s most well equipped workshops. As a student, you develop your expertise, at the same time as you have the opportunity to expand and deepen your knowledge and position your work in a contemporary field of craft.

CRAFT! is a programme in which we view craft as a relevant method for questioning and challenging the time in which we live and as a tool for critical investigation of, and through, making and materialisation. The programme is characterised by a social engagement anchored in the understanding that craft can exist between and beyond traditional boundaries.

The students’ projects and independent development lay the foundations for an exploration of what contemporary craft practices and norm criticality can be. There is not just one kind of craft, but many! The programme encompasses studio and workshop practises, as well as discussions, seminars, publications, exhibition forms, and immaterial cultural heritage. Here you will get to challenge and be challenged in discussions with both student groups and a team of teachers who are established international artists and theorists.

You apply with a project that focuses on one of the following tracks:
Textiles / Ädellab / Ceramics and Glass.

Your project proposal has to describe a specialisation in one of the tracks and contain a plan that describes how you want to develop your work within the framework of workshops and prerequisites in the programme. As part of the master programme, you carry out experimental practical and theoretical investigations with the materials, techniques and other resources available both within Konstfack and externally. Critical thinking and scrutinising of norms and conventions are vital elements of the programme and can be described as the red thread in all its aspects.

The Master’s programme in CRAFT! will prepare you for a future career as a professional practitioner and therefore your own project is the fundament of your master studies. There is a strong emphasis on individual responsibility for planning and the subject-specific research. The craft based practice has the ability to communicate far beyond national boundaries and we provide an international programme with teaching being conducted in English. The CRAFT! programme leads to a Degree of Master of Fine Arts in Crafts with specialisation in Textiles, Ädellab or Ceramics and Glass.
