Tabakalera—International Centre for Contemporary Culture—aims to inspire reflection on contemporary issues through a programme of seminars, presentations, workshops, screenings and exhibitions, as well as to support artists and cultural agents through different production programmes.
Through the residency programme for 2017, Tabakalera intends to invite artists, curators and other cultural agents to apply for a residency to develop different projects. The open call covers three different kinds of residency and a total of nine proposals will be selected by a mixed commission.
Curatorial project
The aim of this kind is to assist curators in the preparation of an exhibition that will take place in Tabakalera in autumn 2018. The residency, which will last four weeks, will offer space, context and time for the development of the curatorial project in the format of an exhibition. The selected curator will be able to give shape to the proposal during his/her stay in 2017.
Artistic project development or production
The aim of this kind is to offer a residency to contribute to the development or production of artistic projects. This call gathers two modalities. The fist modality is for the development of an audiovisual project of artistic nature and the second, for the development of an artistic project, regardless of the artistic discipline and format.
Collaborative project between artists or cultural agents
The aim of this callis to offer the opportunity to an artist or cultural agent who works in the Basque context, to invite an artist or cultural agent who works elsewhere, to a residency for the development of an artistic project in collaboration.
The allocation of these residencies will be both for the development of projects or to accommodate creative processes already in progress, in any format, regardless of the artistic discipline or the current phase of the project.
Length of residency periods: from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on the residency.
Periods to be chosen between March and June 2017 or between October and December 2017.
We will be offering:
1. Round trip
2. Per diems
3. Medical insurance during the period of residency
4. A fully equipped apartment (kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a small area for working, access to the internet with wifi)
5. A work space in Tabakalera’s production area
6. Access to Tabakalera’s public programmes and library
7. Hosting and support from Tabakalera team throughout the stay
8. Access to image and sound edition spaces, and a space for performing practices
9. Additional financial assistance, depending on the residency, to cover small expenses related to the production process
