Faculty for summer residency 2016
We are excited to announce our Visiting Faculty who will join us this summer for our third MFA-IA Residency as part of our low-residency MFA Interdisciplinary Arts program.
Matt Freedman is an artist, writer and curator living in Queens, New York. He has shown his work or performed nationally and internationally. He has curated at Long Island University, the SculptureCenter, as well as many other locations. He has received fellowships in sculpture from the NEA, and in fiction writing from the New York Foundation for the Arts. He published a graphic journal, Relatively Indolent but Relentless, with Seven Stories Press in 2014. He teaches in the Graduate Fine Arts Visual Studies programs at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design as well as in the MFA-IA program at Sierra Nevada College.
Thomas Zummer is an independent scholar, writer, artist and curator. His drawings, media, and sculptural works have been exhibited worldwide, and he is the author of various essays on philosophy and media. Zummer is a frequent lecturer on philosophy, aesthetics and the history of technology and has taught at Brown University, NYU, The New School, the Transart Institute/Linz and Tyler School of Art. He is currently a faculty member in Philosophy at the EGS, Saas-Fee, Switzerland and an associate professor and director of the graduate program in Graphic and Information Design at Central Connecticut State University, as well as a Lecturer in Digital + Media studies at RISD.
Ayanah Moor is an interdisciplinary artist whose creative tools include printmedia, performance, drawing and video. She has been awarded artist residencies at Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago; Proyecto ‘Ace in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Auckland Print Studio in New Zealand and the Vermont Studio Center. Moor’s work has been addressed in books, Troubling Vision: Performance, Visuality and Blackness, and What is Contemporary Art? published by University of Chicago Press. She completed her BFA at Virginia Commonwealth University and MFA at Tyler School of Art. Ayanah Moor is associate professor in printmedia at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Roman De Salvo is a contemporary American conceptual artist whose sculpture and installations utilize everyday objects and materials in inventive and unexpected ways. De Salvo’s work combines his interest in craft, technology, language, and materials with ever present attributes of wit and play. De Salvo’s work has been featured in the 2000 Biennial Exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Giverny Garden Projects at the Musée d’Art Américain, Giverny, France; Main Street Sculpture Project at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut; American Idyll for the Public Art Fund in Brooklyn, New York.
Steve Lambert dropped out of high school to study sociology and film, receiving a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2000 and an MFA at UC Davis in 2006. Steve then served as a Senior Fellow at the Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology in New York. He is a professor of New Media at the State University of New York at Purchase. As an artist, Steve’s projects have won awards from Prix Ars Electronica, Rhizome/The New Museum, the Creative Work Fund, and others. He has collaborated with artists including the Graffiti Research Lab and the Yes Men. Steve is the co-founder and co-director of the Center for Artistic Activism.

SNC’s MFA-IA summer priority deadline is quickly approaching. July 31–August 9 will mark the third residency of our Low Residency MFA program in Interdisciplinary Arts at Sierra Nevada College.
The new low-res MFA-IA consists of two, intensive 10-day on-campus residencies during summer and winter sessions over the course of 2.5 years. During the fall and spring semesters, students work in their home studios and continue relationships with faculty mentors and fellow colleagues via email exchange, online seminars, blog contributions and other social media.
