Stockholm University of the Arts (Uniarts) is a leading arena for innovative, exploratory education and artistic research. We offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes as well as postgraduate education in circus, dance, film, media, opera and performing arts. Artistic research is a central focus, extending knowledge boundaries within the artistic disciplines and constituting a dynamic force for the progress of art and its impact on social development.

Stockholm University of the Arts was inaugurated on January 1, 2014 when the School of Dance and Circus (DOCH), the University College of Opera, and Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts merged. Our aim is to become Sweden’s premier arts university. The school, with approximately five hundred students and two hundred and fifty employees, is located across four educational sites in central Stockholm.

Uniarts announces PhD positions in performative and mediated practices—with a specialisation in choreography, film and media, opera, or performing arts—provided that Uniarts is awarded degree-awarding powers. Uniarts has filed an application for third cycle degree-awarding powers on artistic ground and the reply is expected June 2016.

The PhD candidate position consists of four years of full-time study. The studies at PhD level include a documented artistic research project and a course section. In addition to your own research, you are expected to regularly participate in other activities at the university, and to perform departmental duties, such as teaching, at one of the university departments.

Application
The application should be written in Swedish or English and be uploaded digitally. We only accept applications that have been submitted through the website’s digital application system.

There are several steps in the admission process. The first selection will be made based on material submitted in the applications. After a second selection, a number of applicants will be invited to attend interviews planned for September 2016. Successful applicants will start January 2017.
