“We, too, wondered whether we could not participate in the sharing economy and succeed in life.”
Welcome to MBnb, a studio apartment available through Airbnb in honor of the great Belgian artist Marcel Broodthaers. The apartment is made available to artists and scholars courtesy of the Broodthaers Society of America, a private entity, and in support of the Broodthaers retrospective organized by Christophe Cherix at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (February 14–May 15).
Broodthaers fans from across the United States and around the world planning on traveling to New York City to see the MoMA show will not only appreciate the comfortable amenities provided by MBnb, but also enjoy secure access to an extensive archive of Broodthaers editions, catalogues, scholarship, and ephemera.
MBnb is a lovely floor-thru apartment in a 115-year-old brownstone on a close-knit Harlem block. The apartment features exposed brick walls, a quiet bedroom, functional amenities, and ample light. The front third of the apartment doubles as the Reading Room of the Broodthaers Society of America. The reading room is only accessible to the guest or, when there is no guest, by appointment to the general public. The middle third of the apartment features a full kitchen and bathroom. The back third is a bedroom with breakfast nook and standup writing desk. There is wifi throughout the apartment.
The kitchen features sufficient equipment for cooking and making your extended stay both pleasurable and affordable. Coffee, tea, and a basic stock of groceries are inclusive in the booking price.
During your stay, one of our hosts will always be reachable by email/SMS in case you need directions, restaurant recommendations, or things to do. We know New York City very well and Upper Manhattan in particular. Harlem is a beautiful neighborhood for walking—hilly, sprawling, multilayered, and diverse—with a rich political and cultural history.
Travel to and from NYC-area airports is available on public transit: The A train serves JFK, the M60 bus goes to La Guardia from 125th Street, and New Jersey Transit goes to Newark Liberty airport from New York Penn Station. The airports also offer shuttle bus services to Penn Station and the Port Authority. Taxi service to or from the airports will cost 60–80 USD one way, not including tip. There are ample taxis and private car services for hire a half block away on Broadway or Amsterdam Avenue.
