Craft at the cutting edge
The Interdisciplinary Craft Residency at Alberta College of Art + Design is a self-directed residency that challenges perceptions and furthers dialogue in craft-based inquiry.
Applications are open until March 25 to Canadian and/or international craft based artists.
The six-week residency will provide an opportunity for an artist to connect with our amazing faculty and work alongside our MFA and undergraduate student body while advancing their research and practice in the field of contemporary craft.
ACAD offers residencies that encourage innovation, research and exploration in art, craft and design while fostering relationships within ACAD and throughout the greater Calgary arts community. Calgary offers the best of all worlds—a vibrant, cosmopolitan urban centre, a safe and friendly atmosphere and outstanding potential for adventure in the natural areas of the nearby Canadian Rockies. Art is alive in Calgary and the Interdisciplinary Craft Residency at is a great opportunity to connect to new voices in Calgary.
The residency program is a new initiative for ACAD who is opening up its extensive facility to enable greater collaboration and inquiry into craft based media.
Applications are sought from mid-career craft based artists wanting to undertake advanced research in contemporary craft.
To be considered for the program, applicants are expected to have achieved international recognition for their work and have attained an MFA or equivalent. Teaching and/or instructor experience is highly desirable. The selected applicant will receive a substantial honorarium (based on a budget proposal), accommodation subsidy, private studio space, access to the College’s resources and onsite exhibition space.
An integral facet of the residency is the artist’s engagement with students, faculty and the local community. The artist is expected to provide studio demonstration and critique for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a public artist talk.
Please see our residency handbook for information regarding campus resources.
