Tabakalera—International Centre for Contemporary Culture—aims to inspire reflection on contemporary issues through a programme of seminars, presentations, workshops, screenings and exhibitions, as well as to support artists and cultural agents through different production programmes.

Through the residency programme, Tabakalera intends to invite artists, curators and other cultural agents to apply for a residency to develop different projects. The open call covers three different kinds of residency.

Curatorial project
The aim of this kind is to assist curators in the preparation of an exhibition that will take place in Tabakalera in autumn 2017. The residency, which will be from three to six weeks, will offer space, context and time for the development of the curatorial project in the format of an exhibition. The selected curator will be able to give shape to the proposal during his/her stay in 2016.

One project will be chosen for the residency.

Artistic project development or production
The aim of this kind is to offer a residency to contribute to the development or production of artistic projects, regardless of the artistic discipline. Audio-visual projects are excluded in this category, since there will be an specific modality that responds to this discipline. The degree of the project’s contribution to Tabakalera’s activities and context will be assessed.

Two projects will be chosen for the residency.

Collaborative project between a local artist and a non-local one
The aim of this call is to offer two residencies for the development or production of art project in collaboration between a local artist or cultural agent with a non-local artist or cultural agent. The allocation of these residencies will be both for the development of projects or  to accommodate creative processes already in progress, in any format, regardless of the artistic discipline or the current phase of the project. The applicant must be the local person. Through this call we aim to involve local artists in the residency programme.

Two projects will be chosen for the residency.

Length of residency periods: from 3 to 8 weeks, depending on the residency.
Periods to be chosen between April and June 2016 or between October and December.

We will be offering:
1. Round trip.
2. Perdiems.
3. Medical insurance during the period of residency.
4. A fully equipped apartment (kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a small area for working, access to the internet with wifi).
5. A work space in Tabakalera’s production area.
6. Access to Tabakalera’s public programmes and library.
7. Hosting and support from Tabakalera team throughout the stay.
