The School of Art & Art History in the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a position at the Assistant or Associate level to work in re-establishing the Art Education program. The BFA in Art Education will provide a contemporary approach to visual arts education within a school committed to pushing the boundaries of art and transcending genre distinctions. Through encouraging intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, problem solving, and the cultivation of radical imagination, the program will prepare artist-teachers to work in schools, museums, community-based programs, and alternative educational sites. We are seeking a candidate who can prepare students to be innovative educators, motivated researchers, and persuasive advocates for the arts in schools and society.

Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate level, supervising student teachers, curriculum and course development, administering the Art Education program, and maintaining current knowledge of teaching certification requirements in Illinois. The successful candidate will be an excellent educator and mentor committed to providing leadership in the field of art education through a sustained peer-reviewed research/scholarship/exhibition profile.

Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (tenured or tenure-track) or Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor (non-tenure-track). Appointment begins August 2016.

Qualifications
Terminal degree (EdD, PhD, MFA or equivalent) in Art Education or related area required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in contemporary art; a dedication to critical and innovative pedagogy; a significant record of programming and administering contemporary art education; the ability to support student teachers to effectively work in K-12 schools; and excellence and distinction through exhibitions, teaching and curriculum development, publications, research, and awards. K-12 and college-level teaching experience expected.
