Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 7pm
Wesleyan University Assistant Professor of Art History Claire Grace will discuss the artist as curator, and the history of artist designed exhibitions.

Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 7pm
Choreographer, writer, director, and conceptualist Ralph Lemon will interpret and reflect on his own practices as an artist and curator.

2015-16 guest artists & speakers announced
Darrell Jones, Rashida Shaw, Liz Lerman, Katherine Profeta, Andrew D. Hamingson, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Okwui Okpokwasili, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Claudia La Rocco, Eiko Otake, and Katherine Brewer Ball will give talks, visit classes, lead movement exercises, join informal meals and gatherings, and share personal histories and practices with ICPP students this year.

ICPP artist residencies awarded to Okwui Okpokwasili and Marc Bamuthi Joseph
Okwui Okpokwasili is the recipient of the 2015 Danspace / Institute for Curatorial Practice in Performance Creative Artist Residency. During ICPP’s Summer Intensive, Okpokwasili and her collaborator Peter Born developed set, script, and lighting for the multi-disciplinary performance piece Poor People’s TV Room, which they presented to ICPP students in a work-in-progress studio showing.

Marc Bamuthi Joseph and collaborators Stacey Printz and Traci Tolmaire developed movement vocabulary this summer for a new work that blends spoken word poetry, dance, music, and shadow animation called /peh-LO-tah/. Bamuthi also spoke with ICPP students about his curatorial practice at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

Wesleyan University’s MA in Performance Curation is a two-year, low residency program for those who seek a deeper immersion in the theory and practice of performance curation and desire more opportunities for substantive critical writing and field practicum projects.

The Certificate Program is a ten-month low residency program that provides a fundamental intellectual framework and specialized peer network in the expanding field of performance.
