The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Master of Science (MS) in Historic Preservation is for those who understand that preserving and reusing historic buildings, furnishings, sites, and landscapes creates continuity between the past, present, and future.
The intensive two-year program consists of a 60-credit curriculum that will prepare you to conserve, restore, and revitalize the built environment through the comprehensive exploration of science, history, creative arts, politics, and technology. Graduates exit the program with practical experience in restoration design, materials conservation, architectural history, preservation planning, and project-based work.
Real-world experience
You will be able to demonstrate your expanding skill set and lay the groundwork for your career through a rewarding 210-hour internship during your time at SAIC. Whether you choose to work with a preservation agency, conservator, restoration architect, designer, or other related expert, you will have hands-on experience with the latest preservation techniques under the guidance of practicing professionals.
