MA Architecture: Spatial Practices / Masters of Architecture (MArch)
The masters courses offered in the Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture are for students who want to deepen their understanding and practice of a subject. Our subject leaders will challenge you to redefine your individual approach as you embrace the opportunities to both focus on your chosen field as well as to work collaboratively across different disciplines.
MA Graphic Design
Communication relies on impact and relevance. As communicators we must first gain attention and then use the resources at our disposal to be relevant—adding new information to pre-existing knowledge. Such principles seem to transcend national boundaries and language systems, and this type of enquiry is at the heart of many postgraduate projects. This Master’s supplies the conceptual tools necessary to interrogate both your practice, and communication more generally. Whether you are interested in experimental typography, user centered design, or some other feature of the design landscape; this course provides a framework for raising your practice to a higher level.

MA Fine Art
MA Fine Art is an opportunity to look at the familiar with a fresh, perhaps oblique perspective in order to explore what constitutes a meaningful and useful research methodology in one culture but may be considered unknown, unnecessary or redundant in another. These differences are at the very fabric of the course; establishing deliberate cross-cultural dialogues with students from international and UK backgrounds and providing a vehicle for highlighting differences in working practices and methodologies. As a student, you will lend your voice, practice and ideas to an environment that celebrates the cross-pollination of countries and cultures in the discourse and creation of work.

MA Illustration
This course encourages you to question the nature of your illustration practice and its context and position relative to the creative industries. It recognises and celebrates an expansive understanding of the subject through the exploration of relationships between illustrator as author, their audience and presentation, and sites and contexts for your work. Ideas are developed through specific individual approaches to research into practice and reflective enquiry. You may come to the course from a number of diverse backgrounds including illustration, graphic design, printmaking, drawing, photography and painting, or from outside art and design practice, having experience across other subject disciplines but demonstrating an abiding interest and evidence of a passion for illustration.

MA Fashion
The MA Fashion course embraces the distinctive characteristics of the provision and a multi-disciplinary learning environment, which supports your individual creative journey, informed and defined by the integrated and diverse nature of the modern fashion industry as well as the social, economic and political drivers of global culture.
The course supports broader professional scenarios, which challenge and question the nature of fashion at an advanced level, by critical exploration, innovative solutions and academic scholarship through an understanding of how the boundaries of knowledge are advanced through research. The diversity of issues relating to beauty, image and communication in the global industry are explored to instigate original socio-political concepts translated through a visual and/or text based narratives. The USP of the MA Fashion course at AUB is collaboration with international brands and design practices through related professional or entrepreneurial activities.

MA Architecture: Spatial Practices
MA Architecture: Spatial Practices presents a challenge to the established, formalised, way of doing architecture and instead encourage the student to look at the production of space beyond the territorial protectionism of the “profession” and in doing so lay claim to larger networks. By mounting that challenge we offer a course that is attractive to those who do not necessarily come from a spatial background but who wish to develop and reconsider their practice through the lens of architectural and spatial thinking. In looking at the production of space, we do not replace architectural as a term, but radically expand it and encourage the student to move beyond the formal limitations of architecture and acknowledge social, political, ecological and virtual networks. We encourage the practical deployment of knowledge within the everyday.

Masters of Architecture (MArch)
The MArch is professionally recognized as an Architects Registration Board & Royal Institute British Architects Part 2 course. It is a unique course in a unique institution. Architecture is an art and the course enjoys a collaborative and creative relationship with the other courses at the University. Design and fabrication of innovative installations, structures and buildings are combined with somatic and performative activities. The course stretches and supports the student both academically and professionally; it is supported itself by an excellent workshop (which includes 3D and fabric printing). MArch students have the opportunity to collaborate with students from film, model-making, fashion, graphics, as well as the other arts and performance courses AUB offers.
