Parsons the New School for Design is pleased to announce Off Pink, the 2015 Parsons Fine Arts MFA thesis show curated by Tina Kukielski.
The exhibition features new work by American Artist, Minhee Bae, Daniel Cerrejón, Aaron Cooper, Jessie English, Amal Khan, Nikola Kravitt, Julie Laenkholm, Logan Lape, Flynn Linehan, M. Mendez, Jeremy Olson, Gabriel Pericàs, Luciana Pinchiero, Sofia Quirno, Patience Rustomji, Leah Schrager, Tariku Shiferaw, Alma Sinai, Buzz Slutzky, Molly Teitelbaum, Keith Tilford, Maika’i Tubbs, and Andy Wentz.
Inclusion and exclusion, absence and presence, the canonized and the outsider, these poles assist as benchmarks for locating where and what might be considered “off” in 2015. As a condition that shapes how cultural history is re-activated and re-written across different geographic frameworks and unrelated borders, to be “off” is an essential and agreed upon guideline—an important, self-selecting guideline for a group of artists who meet by seeming chance for graduate study in New York and hail from all over the world. As a round-up of contemporary practices and current trends of the Parsons program, the exhibition is a manifestation and culmination of two years of intensive artistic production. The “off” in Off Pink signifies both a belonging—being member of a group, a cohort, an ensemble—but also a longing to get on with things, to take what is learned and then finally, eventually, and anticipatedly—degree in hand—to take off.

This event occurs over two evenings on Wednesday, May 13 and Thursday, May 14 from 7 to 10pm at Wollman Hall, 65 West 11th Street Room B500, New York, NY 10003.
The MFA in Fine Arts offers an exciting, critically engaged two-year program that is a combination of studio, theory and professional practices. Being a part of both Parsons and the New School University, the program is uniquely positioned within an educational environment that includes a wide spectrum of activity, ranging from rigorous formal and aesthetic investigations to a number of pressing social and political concerns. Our faculty are celebrated members of the New York art community who exhibit and publish worldwide and our students hail from numerous backgrounds and cultures and working with a variety of media and methods—including painting, drawing, sculpture, video, performance, digital media, installation and photography. A transdisciplinary seminar reaches into the larger New School community with themes such as Art and Afro Futurism, Art and Poetry, Art and Science and Feminist Art Practices. Parsons Fine Arts is situated within the School of Art Media and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design. Students have the opportunity to take electives across Parsons and the internationally recognized New School for Social Research. Our international faculty has been exhibited at the Whitney Biennale, Museum of Modern Art, documenta and the Sydney Biennale. Students interact with high-profile visiting artists and critics. This year’s guests have included Laylah Ali, Matthew Buckingham, Liz Magic Laser, Ken Lum, Mary Miss and Jacolby Satterwhite.
