The design, creation and installation of a work of art for the écoles nationales d’économie et de statistiques group of schools in France.

Created over 70 years ago l’ENSAE ParisTech is France’s only grande école specialising in economics, statistics and actuarial science. The mastery of mathematical tools is the basis on which its students develop a double competence in economics and statistics. ENSAE graduates specialise in a wide variety of domains, leading to employment in the tertiary sector, notably in areas where scientific innovation predominates, and in particular in banking, insurance, energy, transport, consulting and the design and interpretation of surveys, and in both French and international public bodies.

ENSAE’s current premises proving too small, the school will be moving into new buildings as of September 2016. These are currently under construction on the Paris Saclay campus near Polytechnique.

The six-level (including basement) building will have a surface area of 15000m2. Its main functions will be research and teaching, but it will also contain an Adult Education Centre, a Secure Data Centre, an administration area, a refectory and a student area. The school will continue to be devoted to work related to the tertiary sector.

ENSAE is launching a call for tender for artists and groups of artists wishing to propose a work of art under the French “1% artistique” scheme, whereby 1% of the cost of a new building must be devoted to the creation of works of art. The new buildings are designed and are being constructed by the architects CAB (Calori Azimi Botineau) winners of the silver équerre in 2012.

Nine works of art are to be proposed, to be placed at the strategic intersections of the building shown in orange on the plans. They will be inserted in chill-out areas, extensions to chill-out areas and links between them. The artists selected must propose strong, global works which aim to personalise and show these areas to their best advantage, while remaining in harmony with the architects’ choices.  Several of these areas, depending on the floors, offer the possibility of extensions into the outside of the building. The artistic works would be able to use this possibility. A large opening as regards the range of artistic disciplines and positions is expected.

The overall budget for the artistic project is 300 000 euro.

Candidates should send their applications, composed of a maximum of five references, a CV and a letter explaining the project by 4pm UTC +1 on the 16th of March to the following address:
