The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) welcomes applications to the 2015 editions of its Emerging Curator and Curatorial Internship programs, as well as its 2016 Visiting Scholar program.

These programs contribute to the CCA’s role of promoting interdisciplinary research in all aspects of architectural thought and practice. The curatorial programs target emerging scholars and professionals interested in contemporary curatorial practice in architecture, while the Visiting Scholar program is intended for post-doctoral or other advanced scholars. While in residence at the CCA, architects, design professionals, artists, scholars, and students have unique access to the Collection and benefit from an active, collaborative research environment.

The Emerging Curator program offers the opportunity to propose and curate a project at the CCA related to contemporary debates in architecture, urban issues, landscape design, and cultural and social dynamics. The project is to be developed during a residency of three months at the CCA. Architects, journalists, designers, critics, historians, and practitioners in any other relevant field born on or after 1 January 1980 are eligible. Applications must be received by 27 February 2015.

With the generous support of the Power Corporation of Canada, the Curatorial Internships are designed to share the CCA’s expertise with students and recent graduates in design disciplines, arts, and the humanities. One or two selected candidates will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the CCA’s collection, exhibition, and research programs through an internship of six to nine months. Students and recent graduates born on or after 1 January 1985 are eligible. Applications must be received by 27 February 2015.

The Visiting Scholar program welcomes applications from architects, urban planners, landscape architects, other professionals active in critical practices related to the built environment, and scholars with advanced levels of experience who are carrying out research on architecture from any disciplinary perspective. Residencies will be granted for periods of two months, to be determined according to CCA programs. Applications must be received by 30 April 2015.

The CCA emphasizes certain research themes that are particularly relevant to the current discourse on the built environment. Of particular note among the CCA’s current initiatives are the investigations into the impact of digital processes on the evolution of architectural planning and theory, and into the changing role of photography in architecture. These latest lines of research shape ongoing curatorial, scholarly, and public activities and proceed alongside the CCA’s other established directions for research.

The Emerging Curator residency and the Internships begin in fall 2015. The Visiting Scholars residency begins in spring 2016.
