The MFA in Curating at Goldsmiths are currently welcoming applications for the 2015 entry.

The two-year MFA programme in curating is designed to develop professional and academic excellence in the field of contemporary curatorial practice. The programme is designed for students who wish to take up the challenge of contemporary curating as an artistic, social and critical undertaking, and who wish to develop their professional practice in this area. It enables you to experiment and innovate in the expanded field of curatorial studies, to collaborate with curators, artists and scholars on an interdisciplinary basis and extend your own, and other students’ knowledge through this process.

The programme offers knowledge in the form of a toolbox, ranging from theoretical concepts to the practicalities of exhibition making, and is built on a peer-to-peer learning model. Intellectual engagement with contemporary curatorial discourse is facilitated though tutorials, lectures, seminars, workshops and reading groups. Our student-centred learning generates independent, articulate, confident, self-motivated, knowledgeable producers who support each other’s learning. What we ultimately aim to do, is to help you become precisely the kind of curator that you want to be.

Goldsmiths’ MFA Curating programme is recognised worldwide for producing highly qualified curators and other arts professionals, known for their rigour and independence. Our graduates find employment in top international museums, commercial galleries, auction houses, magazines, alternative spaces and not-for-profit organisations.

The staff on the MFA programme is internationally renowned curators whose own professional practice informs their work as teachers. You will be working with Dr. Ele Carpenter, Chris Hammond, Kirsty Ogg, Helena Reckitt, Prof. Andrew Renton, Dr. Simon Sheikh and Dr. Gilda Williams, as well as a revolving list of visiting tutors from the field. Recent visiting lecturers include Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Celine Condorelli, Alfredo Cramerotti, Alex Farquharson, Maria Hlavajova, Irene Revelle and Vivian Ziherl.

We provide bursaries, professional opportunities and the chance to meet and work with many of the leading artists, theorists and curators in the world today. The programme is uniquely situated within the department of fine art, and draws its understanding of contemporary art from this setting. We have a world leading reputation that brings together students and researchers from across the globe. We work with a network of artists, curators, galleries and museums, both in London and internationally, to create an inspiring and dynamic place in which to study and develop a critical practice. Goldsmiths is located in the New Cross area, a vibrant hub for cutting edge gallery and emerging artist activity in London.
