Burren College of Art is now accepting applications for the MFA & MA in Studio Art programmes beginning September 2015.
Graduate studies at BCA are centred on the idea of art as a process of enquiry. Research and experimentation take place in an interdisciplinary studio-based environment supported by engagement with theoretical discourse and professional studies. Students choose their own field of enquiry with which to build a vital and sustained practice. Learning and teaching is carried out through one-on-one tutorials, faculty and peer critiques, seminars on research methodology, and critical discussion on historical and contemporary issues in art.
Graduate students at BCA develop the professional skills necessary to survive and thrive as practicing artists. Discussion with faculty, artist and curators takes place weekly through our visiting artist programme, and interaction with galleries and museums is facilitated by study trips to Dublin, London and Berlin. Students have the opportunity to exhibit individually and develop collaborative or socially engaged projects, testing ideas in our gallery spaces or in the unique social and environmental context of The Burren. The dynamic and immersive experience provided by the Graduate programs at Burren College of Art prepares students for active and engaged careers as artists, educators, curators, gallerists and beyond. Recent graduates have featured in Saatchi’s New Sensations exhibitions and recent visiting artists include Mick O’Dea (President of the Royal Irish Academy), Peter Power (Chair, Printmedia, SAIC), Dragana Jurisic, Shane Cullen and Marc Asnin.
The two-year MFA programme (four semesters) prepares emerging artists who wish to practice professionally, to teach at university level or to progress to PhD in Studio Art. The one-year (three semesters) MA programme provides a Masters level education in artistic practice appropriate to a diverse range of applications. If you are unsure which level is right for you, contact us informally at [email protected].
Burren College of Art is offering four graduate scholarships for programmes beginning September 2015, valued at 9,200 euro each. Applications will close on February 27 and decisions, which will be based on artistic excellence and evidence of financial need, will be announced in April.
