The Office of Graduate Studies at Maryland Institute College of Art, in conjunction with regional and national partners, offers competitive fellowships, awards and residencies to graduating MFA candidates. These awards are designed to assist recent graduates in establishing both professional and artistic practice after earning their MFA. This highlighted selection of awards represents the wide range of opportunities available to MFA candidates at Maryland Institute College of Art.

Henry Walters Traveling Fellowship 
Since its inception, the Henry Walters Traveling Fellowship, with a travel award of 10,000 USD, has allowed over 30 of MICA’s most talented graduate students to begin their careers with an immersive and transformative travel experience that informs their art making for years to come.

Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship 
This 10,000 USD fellowship is awarded to a graduating MFA that shows exceptional promise in painting, sculpture, film, video, mixed media or performance art. The mission of the Toby Fund is to support exceptional programs and people with ideas and abilities to foster creativity and encourage new approaches to arts, education, environment, civic, health, and social services.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland – MICA – Artist House Teaching Fellow Residency
In collaboration with MICA Graduate programs and St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The SMCM-MICA Artist House Teaching Fellow Residency is designed for an emerging artist/teacher to gain early teaching experience with undergraduates within a liberal arts college environment and produce new creative work while in residence.

MFA Fellowship Studio at Bromo Seltzer Tower
The Brown Studio, located in The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, an icon of the Baltimore skyline, is awarded free of charge for one year to a graduating MFA student.

Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture
Skowhegan is designed to give emerging artists the opportunity to work independently and to build a strong and supportive community of artists through an experience extending far beyond the borders of its campus. MICA participates in Skowhegan’s Matching Fellowship program and can award full scholarships for up to two successful applicants.
