This fall Sierra Nevada College at Lake Tahoe announced the launching of a new low-residency MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts. In honor of the program’s initiation, SNC will be hosting a group exhibition in the Garage Door Gallery juried by one of the program’s lead visiting faculty, Amy Franceschini of Futurefarmers, and the MFA-IA Program Director, Russell Dudley.

Open call
We are inviting artists to submit works that play with the program’s commitment to creative problem solving and interdisciplinary practice through careful observation and the articulation of “embodied place.” By this, we mean to seek the work of emerging artists who are particularly interested in creating spaces of opportunity, both inside communities and within an individual’s understanding of the world. We want to see the evidence of your explorations of subject, place, environment, location and context. All media are welcome, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, video, sound, performance, intervention and installation.

Submissions
Submit one PDF (no larger than 3MB) titled LastName_FirstName.pdf that includes:
– Artist statement
– Four images of the work with title, medium, dimensions and date
– Video and audio submissions should include a link to the media

Email submissions and follow-up questions to Sarah Lillegard, Gallery Coordinator, [email protected]. There is no submission fee.

Public program
The exhibition reception will be held Thursday, February 26, 5–6:30pm, and accompanied by a panel discussion featuring four guest speakers that further articulate the connectivity between scientific, social and aesthetic practice.

About Sierra Nevada College’s MFA-IA
Sierra Nevada College is a small, liberal arts college, located three blocks from Lake Tahoe, within a national forest, on an easily accessible campus in Incline Village, Nevada. The Low-Residency MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts is a locus for creative problem solving, fostered by creative thinking with an emphasis on community. The experience and exploration of embodied place is a central element of this distinctive program, encouraging students’ multi-dimensional relationship with their environment both in the Tahoe Basin and within their own communities.
