California College of the Arts is pleased to announce two new graduate programs—a new Master of Interaction Design (MDes) and the MBA in Civic Innovation. Developed by CCA’s renowned graduate faculty, these programs offer new approaches to specialized careers that stress the value of people and organizations as transformative agents well suited to working environments in established companies, governments, or nongovernmental organizations.

One-year Master of Interaction Design
The human-centered discipline of interaction design is growing rapidly to meet the needs of an increasingly technology-rich world. CCA’s new Master of Interaction Design program provides students with the combination of powerful craft, people, and process skills that enable them to shape cutting-edge technologies and play key roles in the emerging design future.

CCA is committed to the idea that interaction design should not only benefit commerce but also have a positive impact on society. Our students learn to use the power of design to humanize technology and address critical, complex challenges in innovative, socially conscious ways.

Low-residency MBA in Civic Innovation
The core of this program asks how government can effect change in innovative and meaningful ways that provide pragmatic and creative solutions toward societal challenges. The MBA in Civic Innovation is a new kind of degree at the intersection of professional skills, policy contexts, sustainable values, and design-thinking techniques.

The program builds on CCA’s successful MBA in Design Strategy program as a foundation, duplicating the core business and organizational courses (such as accounting, economics, communications, and sustainability) and project themes for public policy studio courses.

We seek students who don’t see themselves in a traditional MBA program, because they seek skills and perspectives that are focused more on change than on management or the optimization of money. This is especially true of those who seek to innovate government and transform NGOs.

We stress deep interactions between people, organizations, and communities as a way of understanding how systemic innovation can help build a more meaningful world.

Application deadlines
Priority deadline for all graduate programs for fall 2015 is January 10. We invite you to participate in our upcoming information sessions for the new MBA in Civic Innovation on Thursday, October 16, and for the new Master of Interaction Design on Tuesday, November 18.
