The summer of 2015 will mark the first semester of a new low-residency MFA program in Interdisciplinary Arts at Sierra Nevada College. With open enrollment already begun, we are extremely excited to invite prospective students to join our growing community of artists and thinkers.

The new Low-Res MFA-IA will consist of two, intensive,ten-day on-campus residencies during summer and winter sessions over the course of 2.5 years. During the fall and spring semesters, students will work in their home studios and continue relationships with faculty mentors and fellow colleagues via online communication modes such as email exchange, online seminars, blog contributions and other social media.

The experience and exploration of embodied place is a central element of this distinctive program, encouraging students’ multi-dimensional relationship with their environment both here in the Tahoe Basin and within their own communities. Through an interdisciplinary approach to art-making, the program encourages participants to consider how we engage the material and social worlds of our respective environments, from personal, to political, to planetary.

Faculty for the MFA-IA program will include a rotating list of prestigious visiting artist faculty, made up of working artists and teachers from across the country as well as current members of the SNC-Fine Arts faculty.

Upcoming visiting artists:
Beth Campbell, William Fox, Matt Freedman, Christine Heindl, David Horvitz, Steve Lambert, Peter Rostovsky, Jared Stanley, Aurora Tang, Jeff Weiss, Terry Allen, David Kimball Anderson, Maria Calandra, Amy Franceschini, Lawrence La Bianca, and others.
