Every year Florence is chosen by thousands of students as a destination not only for their educational careers but also as an international experience. An authentic full immersion in fashion and art. This is where it all started. It was indeed in Florence that Italian fashion began, thanks to Giovan Battista Giorgini, who organised the first fashion show of Italian designers which was attended by the most important buyers from all over the world. Success was immediate and the show was repeated in Palazzo Pitti, in the luxurious Sala Bianca, scenario of memorable events through which Italian fashion came to be known and admired all over the world. Florence has always been a centre of excellence, a territory in which the finest craft traditions coexist, outstanding among which are leather working, the style of leading fashion companies such as Gucci and Salvatore Ferragamo, through to the treasures of Renaissance art.

In its new premises of Villa Favard, Polimoda offers an international study experience in a unique context, immersed in the neo-Renaissance art of the villa while boasting the state-of-the-art teaching of Polimoda’s team of lecturers and professionals. Mindful of how rapidly the fashion world is changing, Polimoda offers a broad range of courses in both Italian and English. For a system that is moving ever closer to an international panorama, Polimoda proposes Masters in English, starting from January or April, which allow students not only to explore key topics of the fashion sector but also to get to know an area that is the homeland of Italian savoir-faire and the success of ‘Made in Italy.’

The Polimoda Master courses offer real answers, training the professional profiles that the market wants.

Collection Design

This Master’s programme is aimed at designers, who wish to develop their personal style in creating a fashion collection and their own business or brand.

Shoe & Bag Collection Design
Accessory designers enhance silhouettes by adding their creative style signature to a contemporary collection. Shoes and bags emphasize a look and help to create the right mood; they often indicate cultural and social status and must be practical, resilient and durable.

Luxury Business
Supposedly timeless, yet even today luxury is not immune to trends. Supposedly immaterial and service-based, but luxury can also be conceptual and dynamic. As a monopoly of big cartels, luxury is probably the only sector where it is still possible to start up new ventures, with the right intuition. Luxury today is mainly finance-driven but cannot exist without culture. It is a precise and restricted sector, however—today, everything from the mass markets has already been luxurified. This Polimoda advanced level course is open to candidates with industry experience, wishing to upgrade and enhance their knowledge and skills, as well as those who, coming from closely related industries, wish to enter luxury at the highest level.

Fashion Writing
Fashion Writing covers all aspects of published fashion, whether in preparation to become a magazine journalist, reporter for fashion shows, creative writer for brands and agencies, or professional blogger. Fashion writers are today’s opinion leaders. People like Suzy Menkes (The New York Times), Imran Amed (Business of Fashion), Scott Schuman (The Sartorialist), and the young Tavi Gevinson with her own blog, are able to observe the whole fashion system, vivisect a single collection, interview designers and managers, take sides or distance themselves from them, but always communicate with a cutting and singular style that will either sow the seeds of doubt or launch sharable perspectives.

Trend Forecasting
As one of the most renowned experts in the sector Lidewij Edelkoort puts it: “trend forecasting is like archaeology, but of the future.” In other words, you analyse little fragments of the current culture to predict what will happen in the future. This is a one-of-a-kind Master in which Polimoda boasts great expertise, relying on a team of the most knowledgeable and visionary teachers. Students will learn how to analyse ideas and cultural phenomena and then apply them, not only to the field of fashion, but to every branch of design (for example textiles, furnishings, the car market etc.)

On June 17, Villa Favard will once again transform into the magnificent location of the Polimoda Fashion Show. For the very first time this year, the catwalk will show only the Best Of: the twenty top final collections of graduating Fashion Design students.
