Neighbourhood Spaces invites socially engaged and community artists for four–six week residencies in various community sites throughout Windsor and Essex County, Ontario, Canada. Supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, this two-year program allows artists to pursue research and/or create works that engage, explore and connect with local communities. Neighbourhood Spaces encourages artists to work in non-traditional spaces in non-traditional ways, embedding artists in community sites such as parks, nature reserves, libraries, health or community centres.
Neighbourhood Spaces aims to:
– Engage in collaborative, and community arts practice
– Expand opportunities for residents and visitors to interact and connect with the arts
– Facilitate neighbourhood participation in community spaces
– Provide an opportunity for local and national artists to develop and expand their practice in meaningful ways with and in new communities and environments
– Encourage civic participation, creating a pride of place
