The Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK), School of Arts of University College Ghent, Belgium, is looking for a managing editor for the newly developed online platform of the museum confederation L’Internationale. The editor will coordinate, both practically and strategically, a lively platform for disseminating research and opinions on art, culture and society. The position is linked to the five-year programme The Uses of Art – on the legacy of 1848 and 1989 (May 2013–April 2018). Expected starting date: March 1, 2014

Context
L’Internationale proposes a space for art within a non-hierarchical and decentralised internationalism, based on the value of difference and horizontal exchange among a constellation of cultural agents, locally rooted and globally connected. Comprising six major European museums, Moderna galerija (MG, Ljubljana, Slovenia); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS, Madrid, Spain); Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA, Barcelona, Spain); Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (M HKA, Antwerp, Belgium); SALT (Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey) and Van Abbemuseum (VAM, Eindhoven, the Netherlands). L’Internationale is working together with complementary partners such as Grizedale Arts (GA, Coniston, United Kingdom); Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU, Liverpool, United Kingdom); Stiftung Universität Hildesheim (UH, Hildesheim, Germany) and University College Ghent School of Arts (KASK, Ghent, Belgium) and associate organisations from the academic and artistic fields.

The editor is appointed by L’Internationale-partner KASK (Ghent, Belgium). The platform is supervised by SALT, Istanbul. The site’s main objective is to offer a platform for debate and research linked to the five year programme The Uses of Art – on the legacy of 1848 and 1989. The programme is funded as Strand 1.1 EU – Culture Programme application. It contains a large variety of exhibitions, symposia, publications and other cultural events and brings together six museums across Europe and four cultural organisations that provide additional expertise and infrastructure to realise the programme’s agenda. The online platform is designed by Project Projects, New York.

Function description:

The managing editor will supervise the practical running of the platform by liaising between the six museums and the partner institutions to form and develop a structure and schedule for each issue. S/he will provide ideas for content as well as acting as chair of the editorial board comprised out of members of all L’Internationale members.

The managing editor is responsible for managing the budget of the platform following the regulations of EU. The editor is also asked to actively pursue collaborations between the School of Arts research programme and the partners of L’Internationale. The editor is in the perfect position to search for opportunities, to build a network and make links between the diverse artistic research projects of KASK and L’Internationale.

The managing editor should have an extensive knowledge of contemporary art and physical and online publishing and blogging. S/he should be able to provide and maintain a clear structure for the editorial board dealing effectively with the physical distance between the members in the day to day running of the platform. S/he should have experience in working in an international team and have proven record in copy-editing in English. S/he is responsible for the overall quality of the language of the online platform and associated social media-channels.

Applicants are requested to send a letter of intention of no more than 250 words stating their motivation, experience and proficiency for the position. Please limit your CV to a maximum of two pages. Accepted formats are .doc, rtf., docx., pdf, or .otf.
