Located in New York’s East Village, NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Art and Art Professions serves as a vibrant site for artistic experimentation and intellectual exchange. The Department draws upon a faculty of acclaimed artists, scholars, and critics, offering programs and courses that integrate technical skills with theoretical understanding within the context of a world-class university setting.
New York City’s galleries, museums, schools, studios, and performance spaces are an integral part of NYU’s campus, as are the university’s vast intellectual and academic resources.
B.F.A. and M.F.A. programs in Studio Art are interdisciplinary, and combine cultural theory with studio courses and facilities in painting, sculpture, photography, digital art and design, video, ceramics, and metalsmithing.
The Department’s M.A. programs include Visual Arts Administration and Art Therapy. We offer an M.A. in Costume Studies, along with a dual-degree opportunity in Costume Studies and Library Science. We offer three Art + Education M.A. programs, including a new degree in Art, Education, and Community Practice.
