California College of the Arts is pleased to announce new offerings in graduate study, all starting in fall 2014:
– MBA in Public Policy Design
– MBA in Strategic Foresight
– Three-Year Graduate Program in Design (a new option, in addition to the existing two-year program)
Developed by CCA’s renowned graduate faculty, these programs offer new approaches to specialized careers, stressing the value of design as a transformative agent at all levels of society.
Since its launch in 2008, CCA’s innovative and highly successful MBA in Design Strategy program has offered a new paradigm in business and design education. It is a unique kind of degree that combines professional skills, sustainable values, and design thinking techniques. The two new MBA programs build on its foundational concepts and curriculum (such as accounting, economics, communications, and sustainability) and add specialized coursework.
The MBA in Strategic Foresight trains students to envision and design the future for organizations of all kinds. Students learn effective strategic techniques, pragmatic business tools, iterative design thinking skills, and methods for viewing uncertainty through multiple lenses. They embrace design as offering pathways through the unknown, and deploy a range of foresight tools to help prepare for myriad possible futures.
The MBA in Public Policy Design trains students to apply design thinking in governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), nonprofits, and other such organizations. Students come to understand how they can effect change in innovative and meaningful ways, and learn to formulate pragmatic yet creative solutions for societal challenges.
CCA’s existing Graduate Program in Design is an intensive two-year MFA program for students who have an undergraduate degree in design or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) and are already prepared for rigorous, advanced work in a design studio environment. The new three-year program option is for students without this substantial background who are seeking to turn their interest in design into an active practice. It begins with an immersive year of conceptual orientation and skill building; students choose whether they will concentrate in communication, industrial, or interaction design and establish a framework for their following two years of study. Students with diverse academic backgrounds and life experiences are encouraged to apply.
Applications for all of CCA’s graduate programs become available starting November 1, 2013 at cca.edu. The priority deadline for students entering in fall 2014 is January 5, 2014.
