Ideal for students ready to launch an art career or in the midst of preparing for competitive MFA programs, the Studio Art Intensive Program offers an intimate and creative environment for hands-on learning.
The program offers:
–One-on-one guidance by professional artists,
–space to create and build your portfolio,
–practical tools for developing your art career, and
–immersion into New York City’s vibrant arts culture and community—including studio visits; lectures, panel discussions, and workshops by prominent artists and architects; and inspiration from the Academy Museum’s collections.
Program overview
–Curriculum
Through a guided process of exploration, students select an area of concentration from painting, sculpture, printmaking or new media. Once a concentration emerges, student and artist-mentor collaborate to develop a curriculum that includes studio-based classes, art theory, and philosophy. Special attention is given to portfolio development, critical thinking, and marketing.
12 courses per year:
Four in your focus area + eight electives
–Exhibition experience
Students in the two-year program culminate their studies with a solo exhibition, and students in the one-year program finish with a group exhibition.
–Space to create
All students enjoy dedicated studio space.
–Tuition
$13,000 per year for the two-year program; $15,000 for the one-year program. Scholarships available.
–Note for international students
We are able to help you in the completion of your I-20 Visa.
Director and faculty
Lead by Maurizio Pellegrin, Director of the Academy School, the Academy’s faculty is composed of national and international professional artist-teachers. The School’s faculty provides close mentoring and offer educational experiences that are engaging, practical, and relate to the challenges of working as an artist today.
Application
Rolling admission for enrollment in either the fall or spring semesters. Along with a completed application, each student must submit an artist statement and a portfolio. A personal interview will be conducted.
