The Siena Art Institute is thrilled to welcome Mark Dion and Amy Yoes as Fall 2013 Project Fellows as they pursue their research-based collaborative drawing project, “Above/Below Ground.” The project will involve student participation and engage with the remarkable collections housed in Siena, including historic and contemporary artwork, natural history, and archeology.

The Fall 2013 semester will also feature a public mid-term symposium around the theme of “Expedition” where Dion/Yoes, along with guest artists, writers, scientists and historians, will engage in a dialogue with the Sienese community. In addition, Dion/Yoes will lead tours of the collections they are exploring and Siena Art Institute students will open their studios to visitors. Visiting artists Michael Hoepfner, J. Morgan Puett and writer Nina Burleigh will also each be in residence for one month during this semester to mentor students and work on their own projects.

The Fall 2013 semester will be an exceptional opportunity for undergraduate or post-baccalaureate students pursing their studies in fine arts who are interested in a semester abroad. Students will benefit from the opportunity to develop their independent work in a focused working environment, where they will receive one-on-one feedback from faculty and our rich roster of visiting artists/writers—as well as being able to take electives from the Siena Art Institute curriculum to hone their existing skills or explore new ones.

The Siena Art Institute, based in Siena, Italy, offers a semester-abroad program for undergraduate and post-baccalaureate art students as well as intensive summer workshops. Courses include painting, photography, art history, creative writing digital multimedia and installation, and more.

Full- and half-tuition scholarships are available for the semester.

Fall 2013 semester dates: August 26–December 15, 2013
