The Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM] opened in November 2003 as a platform for creating novel forms of artistic expression dealing with media technology and the human body. YCAM and its unique production system centered around the YCAM InterLab team has become a hub for creation and communication, expanding the realm of art/media/body expression, and connecting the region to the world.
The YCAM 10th Anniversary Program was put together with the aim to indicate further developments as an evolving art center, with the numerous creative endeavors we have been engaging in from the beginning as a foundation.
As commemoration of our 10th Anniversary, we start our first-ever public competition for our 10th Anniversary Program this year to meet emerging talents.
We call for proposals exploring possible future ways of life and lifestyles that, with such concepts as “shared,” “nomadic” or “mobile,” keep changing in recent years. The 2011 earthquake generated a striking diversity in terms of information acquisition and editing skills, and at the same time, inspired us to question ways of forging direct relationships with society and local communities as bases for living. Take this opportunity to realize ideas to work as continuous platforms for seeking in the concepts of media possible answers to fundamental investigations into life and lifestyle that have recently come under review. Excellent plans will be realized through a two- to three-month residency.
This competition is open to all ages and nationalities regardless of career or background.
