Applications are invited for the Rome Fellowship in Contemporary Art 2013–14.
This is a valuable and exciting opportunity for an early-career artist, working in any discipline, who has a significant track record of exhibiting. Applicants should be keen to engage in the multidisciplinary activity of the British School at Rome.
It is a three-month residency (October–December 2013), with an en-suite residential studio, meals in our communal dining room, 24-hour access to our historic library collection, a group show, and a research grant of 1,500 GBP per month (plus the opportunity for a short pre-residency visit to the BSR).
Selection for this Fellowship is by a panel including Nicholas Berwin, William Cobbing, Sacha Craddock, Caroline Douglas, John Gill and Mark Wallinger.
Applicants must be of British or Commonwealth nationality, or have been working professionally or studying at postgraduate level for at least the last three years in the UK or Commonwealth.

Fine Arts residencies at the BSR offer artists and architects access to Rome and Italy as an exceptional repertory of the visual culture of the past, and encourage informed and innovative responses to that cultural heritage. They offer the superb opportunity to research and focus upon work away from normal pressures, and to use the BSR as a base to explore Rome and Italy. A strong provision of support, including Italian language lessons, practical support and dedicated staff, give residents the ability to exploit their time at the BSR fully. The regular programme of events enables them to meet and interact with others in their own and other disciplines, both from the BSR and the unique cluster of foreign academies in Rome. A programme of exhibitions gives all artists the opportunity to show their work. A wide range of awards is open to fine artists at every career stage, from immediate graduate on. Artists who have been at the BSR recently include Richard Billingham, Spartacus Chetwynd, Adam Chodzko, William Cobbing, Melanie Counsell, Lucy Gunning, Chantal Joffe, Hayley Newman, Elizabeth Price and Mark Wallinger.
