Rhode Island School of Design presents the inaugural Beyond RISD Lecture Series, kicking off with alumna Dana Schneider [RISD ’82 Sculpture] on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 7pm in the Metcalf Auditorium [Chace Center at 20 North Main Street, Providence].

This event will be free of charge and open to the public, but advance registration is necessary and offered on a first-come, first-served basis at beyond.risd.edu.

It’s no secret that RISD students are driven, passionately focused on their work, and deeply committed to developing their full creative potential. Beyond RISD is a new alumni lecture series that provides students and alumni an opportunity to consider how their unique capabilities can provide the key to a successful career.

Beyond RISD is brought to you through the generosity of Vice Chair, RISD Board of Trustees and alumna Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn [RISD ’83 Textiles].
February 5: Dana Schneider [RISD ’82 Sculpture], jewelry designer who has made work for more than 50 TV shows and films like The Matrix sequels, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and, most recently, the mockingjay pin for The Hunger Games.
March 5: David Stark [RISD ’91 Painting], President and principal designer of David Stark Design and Production, a Brooklyn-based firm with a reputation for producing high-concept, art-infused parties and special events around the world.
April 9: Neil Kraft [RISD ’78 Photography], founder of KraftWorks, a New York based advertising agency focused on creating successful campaigns and communication platforms for brands such as the Aldo Group, Ann Taylor, Bali Intimates, Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker and Calvin Klein.

“All of the Beyond RISD speakers have built a successful career on the foundation of their RISD education,” said Greg Victory, director of RISD’s Career Center. “The goal of this series is to give examples of the nearly limitless opportunities that a RISD education affords—the skills developed here are applicable in so many exciting ways.”

“As a Textile graduate who now focuses on painting and jewelry design, I have personally experienced how a RISD education prepares us to succeed in a broad range of disciplines. I also know many fellow RISD alumni who have built remarkable careers that transcend their majors, but are absolutely built on their RISD educational experience,” said RISD trustee and alumna Lisa Pevaroff-Cohn [RISD ’83 Textiles]. “In launching this speaker series, it is my hope to have these alumni share with our students the limitless opportunities that can be realized through a RISD education.”
