The Department of Art and Art Professions is seeking a full-time Clinical Associate Professor/Full Professor in Studio Art, non-tenure track position, to direct the Department gallery at 80 Washington Square East. The new hire will have both teaching responsibility and, on a rotating basis, oversight of the gallery and its educational programs. He/she will bring to the department an established record of studio practice, an interest in curatorial praxis, a strong reputation in the field and a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the skills required to run an art gallery that serves as an educational laboratory. The position will report to the Chair of the Department of Art and Art Professions and will begin September 1, 2013.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be an innovative leader and will be expected to undertake the following:
Work with faculty and administration on setting artistic and pedagogical goals for 80WSE Gallery including vision, planning, funding, and implementation of exhibitions and programming.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with the department’s multiple constituents, including faculty, students, alumni, the NYU community and the New York art world.
Manage the operational and administrative details required for 80WSE Gallery to function effectively.
Participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees appropriate to a university faculty member.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will havea graduate degree and experience leading and managing a gallery or program, experience teaching at the university level, and a track record of ongoing engagement with students and with a creative academic community.
