Theme: the shoe.
Workshop dates: July 2–13, 2012.
Organized by the EBABX, a summer workshop, “Marchons-marchons ” during July 2012 in partnership with the Politechnico of Milan, will bring together students, recent graduates and young professionals from here and abroad, to work on the idea of the shoe alongside local and regional companies.

An international project, the workshop, which puts in close relation design, service design, local territory and creative strategies as defined with partner companies, will involve the making of prototypes.

Participants will work in collaboration with partner local and regional shoe companies, who will contribute their techniques, identity, history and know-how in order to realize the prototypes. This workshop, supervised by professional theoreticians and designers for a period of 15 days, will include theoretical and artistic research which will question different aspects of shoemaking, economics, commercialisation, and regional distribution.

Thus, the prototype projects will have as objective to reflect this cultural reality, but also to be a concrete process wherein each creation could potentially become an industrially realisable product.  The workshop will put the accent on innovation.  The design, style, and fashion aspects of the shoes and research on new materials will be emphasized in order to produce projects which are innovative and could be included in the field of contemporary creation.

EBABX will film the entire workshop and produce a video documentary at the end which will reveal the content of the workshop, underlining the wealth and diversity of shoe industries in Aquitaine.  One of the objectives will be to show how design, style and innovation could play an important part in a sector which has lost visibility and position in the market these past few years as a result of globalisation and competition.
