Fine Arts
The remodelled Fine Arts department of the Sandberg Institute retains its focus on the notions of autonomy and making while simultaneously addressing the social and economical roles and implications of these traditional parameters of art production. The program is structured around custom modules that investigate the realms of language, image, object and performance production and representation.

Design Department
The department functions as a cultural think tank for visual strategies. Students commit themselves in various cultural, visual, political and research-based projects and initiate their own visual and contextual works. They show an intellectual grasp of critical issues in contemporary culture that suits them to a future engaging in research, initiating their own projects, directing, editing, curating events, and creating hybrid forms of communication that draw on their skills as writers, editors, programmers, conceptualizers, and form-givers.

Master Interior Architecture
Social sustainable research by design
The role of the interior architect is changing and therefore we should be critical about our own position in society. We train students to become capable of producing innovative designs through research and experimentation in the Laboratory. They learn to generate future-proof solutions for the complex spatial design tasks in the Atelier. They are able to present their work and confront, discuss and reflect on it at the Podium.

Applied Art Department
aka The Dirty Art Department
The Dirty Art Department is an open space for all possible thought, creation, and action. Acting as a dynamic paradox, flowing between the pure and applied, the existential and deterministic, and the holy and profane, it is concerned with individuality, collectivity, and the relationship between the built and natural world, other people and ourselves. It is a place to build objects or totems, religions or websites, revolutions or business models, paintings or galaxies. (Since ‘god is dead’ and ‘the spectacle’ is omnipresent, it sees the creation of alternative realities as the way to reconsider our life situation on this planet.) It is open to students from all backgrounds; designers, artists, bankers, skeptics, optimists, philosophers, independent thinkers, farmers, anarchists, and the curious.
