The School of Art and Design in the College of Architecture and the Arts, at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), seeks recognized artists engaged in active creative practice with a commitment to cross-disciplinary, collective dialogue in both undergraduate and graduate level education. Successful candidates will join current distinguished art and art history faculty to offer direction and shape curriculum as part of the new School of Art and Art History, anticipated for implementation in 2013.  In addition to regular course and graduate advising assignments, faculty responsibilities include committee service within the School, College, and University, and strong commitment to a sustained national/international research profile.

Faculty appointments for both positions are open rank and will be filled depending on qualifications at the level of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (full-time tenured or tenure-track); Clinical/Visiting Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (full-time or part-time non tenure-track). Salary will be commensurate with experience. Appointment begins August 2012.

 

Faculty Position: Moving Image
The ideal candidate should be a highly visible time-based artist whose work and critical thinking demonstrate an innovative approach to: film, video, animation, and sound, as well as installation/performance-based moving image practices. The candidate must understand time-based media as a means for contemporary intellectual discourse, demonstrate proficiency in film/video/sound production equipment and editing/animation software, and advocate for new technological learning tools.  Responsibilities include teaching fundamental and advanced undergraduate Moving Image production courses, undergraduate and graduate seminars, and graduate student advising.

Faculty Position: Painting
The ideal candidate should be a highly visible artist whose innovative work and critical thinking occupies a distinct position in relation to contemporary painting and practice.  We seek an individual who engages painting as a form of visual and intellectual discourse.  Responsibilities include teaching fundamental and advanced 2-D and painting Studio Arts courses, undergraduate and graduate seminars, and graduate student advising.

 

Qualifications
MFA or equivalent required. Demonstrated excellence and distinction through exhibitions, critical reviews, publications, research and other significant awards. College-level teaching experience preferred.

5. Visual Portfolio:
Moving Image Applicants
– three works, 3–5 minutes each (excerpted if longer); trt: 15 minutes.
– each video clip must be under 60MB, and saved as mov, flv, mp4, m4v or wmv
– checklist with work sample information.
Painting Applicants
– fifteen images, may include up to three detail views
– each image less than 5MB, submitted as .jpg
– checklist:  title, date, medium, dimensions
